Booklets come in many different sizes. The most popular sizes for booklet printing are A4 and A5. There are many finishing options available for booklet printing: perfect binding, wiro-binding, saddle stitching also known as staple bound. Ask your printer to send you some samples if you're unfamiliar with booklet print finishing.
Booklet printing page layout A booklet printer cannot print booklets with an odd number of pages e.g. 6, 10, 14, 18, 22 etc. The pages need to be multiples of four e.g. 4,8,12,16,20,24 etc.
A self cover booklet is one where the cover is the same paper thickness as the inner pages.
What is a pre-flight check for booklet printing? This is a technical term that means a series of checks have been made to the electronic file that you submit. As an example, your booklet print file will be checked to make sure that all of the images in the file have a correct resolution that is suitable for printing etc. Most printers charge a small fee for this service - it's well worth paying because reprinting a booklet due to errors will cost a lot more.
